Boathouse Type Study
A sketch study for a long, low boathouse, worked out as a type rather than for a site or a client.
Rowing clubs often start in a shipping container and a tarpaulin. This sketch study asks what the simplest permanent replacement would be, without a site or a client to answer to.
The answer is essentially a long shed: boats on racks at the landward end, a clubroom with a folding wall at the water end, changing rooms between. Everything below one metre is imagined in concrete or galvanised steel, to survive storms and wet boats; everything above in timber. There are no photographs yet, because nothing has been built.
